Veteran sportscaster, Pete Lamoureux has covered over 1,500 sporting events throughout his 20 year career. Mr. Lamoureux actually gained his first experience behind the mic as a 15 year-old talk show host on WWEB, the school radio station at venerable Choate Rosemary Hall Preparatory School in Wallingford. Upon graduation from UConn, Pete began his commercial radio career at WELI in New Haven. Some of his responsibilities included play-by-play of Yale University basketball and hockey as well as reporting from the Greater Hartford Open Golf Tournament and the Pilot Pen Tennis Tourney. Interviewing Wayne Gretzky at a New Haven press luncheon was the highlight of his tenure along with meeting Pete's long time buddy and mentor, the late Bill Gonillo. Pete moved on to WICE Radio in Providence where he covered Brown University and Providence College sports. While in Providence, Pete was recognized as the "Favorite Rhode Island Sportscaster" by the Providence Journal Newspaper. After a short stint with the New Haven Nighthawks of the American Hockey League, Pete became Sports Director of WPOP Radio in Hartford where he simultaneously did play-by-play for the Connecticut Coyotes of the Arena Football League. In 1996, Pete fulfilled a childhood dream by becoming the public address announcer for his all time favorite sports team, the Hartford Whalers.
In 1997, Mr. Lamoureux turned to the management side as Program Director at WNTY in Southington. While at WNTY, Pete did play-by-play for Southington and Plainville High School sports. Concurrently, he teamed with veteran New York sportscaster, Bob Heussler to call Fairfield University basketball games on the radio and the Internet for four seasons through 2001. All of this time, Pete was an instructor at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. In September of 2001, Pete began a sports talk venture with the legendary, Sebastian (one of Pete's really good friends and idols). While in Springfield, Pete broadcast the Hall of Fame Tip Off Classic for 5 consecutive years. He called games involving perennial powers such as: Georgetown, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Memphis, and Maryland.
Mr. Lamoureux began his work at Marlin Broadcasting in 2004 by doing play-by-play of West Hartford high school football. Now, the station broadcasts 30-35 high school sporting events annually including football, hockey, basketball, softball, and baseball. Pete is the sports update guy on Sebastian in the Morning on 106.9 FM, WCCC, Beethoven Radio's sister station.
Pete is single (although some would say that he is married to sports). He lives in Wallingford where he eats fine food, plays cards, watches a ton of sports, and helps to run the family estate.
None of this would be possible without the constant support and guidance of his beloved parents, Roslyn and Paul, and the sage advice and great friendships with his brother Paul (better known as Bud) and his sisters Lisa and Susan. Besides winning the lotto, Pete's career won't be complete until he attains the ultimate goal: helping to bring back the most important entity in the history of Hartford: A NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE FRANCHISE.
